This directive outlines the requirements for how the Alberta upstream oil & gas industry should manage oilfield waste.

Waste Component |
An application to address the construction and operation or modification to an oilfield waste management component located on an active oil & gas site managing first-party oilfield waste. See Waste Component attachments. Note that some attachments are mandatory and some are optional. |
Waste Facility |
An application to address the construction and operation, suspension, abandonment, remediation, and surface land reclamation, or modification of an oilfield waste management facility. See Waste Facility attachments. Note that some attachments are mandatory and some are optional. |
Waste Miscellaneous |
An application to address an activity not covered by any other application type. See Waste Miscellaneous attachments. Note that some attachments are mandatory and some are optional. |
Waste One-Time |
An application to address a temporary activity on an active licenced or approved site. See Waste One-Time attachments. Note that some attachments are mandatory and some are optional. |
Waste Pilot |
An application to address a unique temporary activity on an active licenced or approved site. See Waste Pilot attachments. Note that some attachments are mandatory and some are optional. |
When you electronically submit a Directive 058 application you must complete Schedule 1 where you enter required applicant and application information. At any time while completing Schedule 1, click Save on the main toolbar to validate and save information. The application is saved on the EAS Web server for 7 days. If errors are found, they must be corrected before the application can be registered with the AER (see Save and validate an application).
Note: You can assign your own number to the application in the Applicant’s File Number field in the upper right corner of Schedule 1.
Fill in the following information on Schedule 1 for these application types.
All applicants must have a valid Business Associate (BA) code from the Canada's Petroleum Information Network. If you require a BA code or DDS login code, please contact the DDS Administrator at (403) 297-5802 or by e-mail at DDSAdministrator@aer.ca.
Click Add Applicant on the Applicant Information bar. You are prompted to confirm whether you are the primary applicant or a consultant acting on behalf of the primary applicant.
If you are the primary applicant, the company name and BA code are automatically entered for you in the Applicant section based on your DDS login information.
If you are submitting on behalf of an applicant, your company name and BA code are automatically entered in the Consultant section based on your DDS login information. A consultant is a person or corporation retained by the applicant to prepare the application.
Enter contact information for the client. You and the client will receive e-mail correspondence about the application.

Enter details about the application as follows:
1. Select the Application Type from the drop-down list.
2. Select the Application Purpose from the drop-down list.
3. If you want to provide a brief summary about your application, type an explanation in the Description box. Click the Save button on the main toolbar.
